This new DOE report compares Incandescent, Compact Fluorescent, and LED lamps for total lifecycle energy consumption. The report finds that CFL and LED currently use about quarter of the energy of incandescent lamps over their life and if LEDs continue to improve as predicted, by 2015 LEDs will use half of CFL energy over full lifecycle. Full lifecycle includes the energy used in manufacturing and transportation of the lamps as well as the energy used by the lamps themselves when in use. Download the full report here.
